Chair4Life Paediatric Wheelchair

Closing date:
03 November 2012

In 2009/10 the NIC responded to clear statements of clinical need from parents, carers, users and health professionals for a wheelchair that promoted user independence and was easily adaptable for a growing child, and commissioned the development of a specification for a Paediatric wheelchair design solution. This collaborative work has now been completed and resulted in the development of a detailed design specification for a modular wheelchair that would accommodate a wheelchair user from the age of 3 to 25 years and beyond. This tender has been issued in order to facilitate the next stage of research and development; the production of a fully working prototype for further evaluation and validation work. The NIC believes that this contract would be ideally suited to organisations that could bring a range of competencies, experience and expertise to bear to build on existing research and design work and develop a prototype that will transform the lives of disabled children and young adults. The NIC recognises that to deliver a truly innovative design and service delivery solution, a diverse range of partners from a range of industry sectors may be desirable. Thus consortia that bring expertise from outside the health sector, such as the automotive industry, are welcome to apply.
